Taxi Dispute in Cabo
You might or might not have heard that we have been having problems with our taxi drivers here in Cabo. There is a federal law that has been around for many years stating that federal highways in Mexico only allow licensed taxi drivers to transport tourists. Fast forward to modern day and through competition and the natural evolution of the tourist market we have found ourselves with shuttle service companies that offer a much more economical option to travel from hotels to airport, airport to hotel, and hotels to other locations in town. This competition has driven the taxi owners crazy and they have exploited this federal law that I am sure in the spirit of the law didn't prohibit companies like the shuttle services from conducting business, but nonetheless the taxi owners are using this law to fuel their protest. The protest has grown quite strong to the point of having several taxi drivers and hired people to sit outside of the hotels and prevent the entrance of the shuttle vans and buses. For the next couple months we are in a moratorium so the taxis have eased up and allowed the shuttle companies to enter the hotels. Stay tuned as I will keep you updated as more news comes up.
